Basis Sensitve Skin Bar Combats Harsh New England Weather

With the harsh New England winter leaving my skin irritated, dry, and itchy I was bound and determined to find a soap that would gently clean my skin and help relieve the damages from the winter weather. After trying products ranging from average in price to the ridiculously expensive I came upon a product that was as easy on my budget as it was on my skin.

The Basis Sensitive Skin Bar was a product that I had previously overlooked because it was so much less expensive than the other products available. At around $3 for a four ounce bar I did not think that it would relieve my skin the way that the expensive brands promised to. The packaging for this product is very unassuming. This bar comes in individual white boxes with black writing and a hint of green for color. It does not jump out at you from the shelf and is easy to miss if you aren’t specifically looking for it. The bar itself is wrapped in clear plastic.

This product is very gentle on your skin and is sensitive enough to use on all of your body parts. Basis is fragrance and dye free so it will not aggravate your skin. It is made from mild ingredients including glycerin, aloe vera, almond oil, chamomile, and beeswax.

Like all bar soaps, Basis is very easy to use. Just wet the bar, work it into a lather in your hands, and apply. I used Basis as an all over cleanser since my arms and legs felt as dried out from the winter weather as my face and hands did. This product made a thick, creamy lather that felt gentle and moisturizing on my skin. It also washed away without a film leaving my skin feeling completely clean.

This product seemed to work a little better on my arms, legs, and hands than it did on my face. My face did feel a little tight after using it while the rest of my body did not. I can say that Basis did not aggravate any of my skin and although my face felt a little tight after using the soap it did not dry my face out. In fact, once the tight feeling went away my face felt softer to the touch than it did before using the product.

Unlike most fragrance free products I was not bothered by the scent of Basis. I am always skeptical when a product claims to be fragrance free since many of them do have a lingering aroma. Most of the time, I believe that these products should say no fragrance added as opposed to fragrance free. Basis, however, is truly a fragrance free product.

I do recommend Basis Sensitive Skin Bar to anyone who is trying to combat the effects of harsh weather on the skin. It is a gentle, inexpensive product that lasts a long time and will make your skin feel softer than many of the expensive products that sit next to it on the store shelf.
